This spring, Assumption College will present a concert-staged performance of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. The performance, which will feature the College’s Chorale and student actors performing lead roles, will be presented in the new 400-seat Jeanne Y. Curtis Performance Hall of the Tsotsis Family Academic Center on April 19, 20 and 21, 2018.

“The College community looks forward to  continuing Assumption’s tradition of hosting a spring musical, this time, showcasing Assumption’s new state-of-the art performance hall, with one of the most sophisticated sound systems for a college or university on the East Coast,” said Richard Monroe ’85, who will direct the spring performance. “The new performance hall is a fitting space to showcase the depth of talent at Assumption while demonstrating the College’s commitment to the performing arts.”

About Joseph

According to The Musical Company, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, which is celebrating its 50th year in 2018, is the “reimagining of the Biblical story of Joseph, his father Jacob, eleven brothers and the coat of many colors.” The story is told entirely through song, and was the first musical collaboration between Andrew Lloyd Webber (music) and Tim Rice (lyrics). This family-friendly musical follows Joseph’s journey as a slave, a prisoner, and ultimately the “right-hand man” of the Pharaoh.

Originally developed as a “pop cantata" for a high school choir performance, Lloyd Webber and Rice expanded their piece into the now beloved musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Since debuting in March of 1968, it has been performed around the world, has earned several Tony Award nominations, and adapted into a film featuring Donny Osmond as Joseph.
